THE MERIDEL EXPERIENCE

An education that becomes part of who you are

Education is shaped by the full range of experiences that surround a student. That includes the languages they use, the communities they participate in, the cultures they encounter, the questions they investigate and the pursuits through which they discover themselves Together, these experiences develop confidence, adaptability, responsibility and perspective, shaping what students carry with them long after they leave the Meridel classrooms.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

What we experience shapes how we understand the world.

Languages of the world

To communicate beyond one language builds an adaptability that reaches far beyond language itself. At the academy, French forms the principal language of learning and daily life, with English integrated throughout the educational experience and opportunities to progressively develop an additional language. Students will use these languages to think, explain, create, collaborate and deepen their understanding.

Moving between languages encourages students to listen carefully, communicate with intention and express ideas in different ways. With experience, they develop the confidence and flexibility to adapt their communication, connect with others and navigate different environments.

Community & Belonging

A strong sense of belonging gives students the confidence to participate, contribute and take responsibility for the communities they are part of. At Meridel, students will have opportunities to work with others, listen, collaborate, share responsibility and contribute to something beyond themselves.

The school’s connection to its surrounding community will extend those experiences through local relationships, projects and opportunities to learn from people and places outside the classroom.

Through these experiences, students begin to understand their own role within a community. They learn how their actions affect others, what they can contribute and what it means to participate with consideration and purpose.

Culture without borders

Understanding the world begins with learning to see it from more than one point of view.

Students develop perspective by encountering people, histories, cultures and ideas beyond their own experience. Meridel's French educational foundation exists within a distinctly Acadian and Canadian context, with an international outlook that brings students into contact with a wider world. This combination gives students opportunities to understand their own cultural and linguistic environment while becoming increasingly familiar with perspectives different from their own.

Curiosity opens the door to those perspectives. Discernment helps students examine and understand them. Over time, students develop the cultural awareness and confidence to communicate across differences, engage thoughtfully with others and find their own place within an interconnected world.

Visual & Performative Arts, Music, Sports & Discovery

Confidence grows when students discover what they can do. Arts and music create space for expression, creativity and the discovery of new interests. Sport and movement develop effort, perseverance, cooperation and the ability to navigate both progress and difficulty. Together, these experiences give students different ways to challenge themselves and recognize abilities they may not yet know they have.

These experiences are interlaced into the educational day, allowing students to develop their interests and capabilities as a natural part of their education. Each new experience becomes an opportunity to build confidence, discover strengths and learn what continued effort can make possible.

Experimental Sciences

Curiosity becomes powerful when students learn how to investigate it. Science begins with the confidence to ask a question and the discipline to find out what the evidence says. Experimental sciences introduce students to scientific thinking through observation, experimentation and engineering. Students learn to investigate questions, test ideas, examine results and use evidence to deepen their understanding of the world around them.

These experiences cultivate curiosity with rigour. They encourage students to explore how things work, approach problems methodically and develop the intellectual habits that allow curiosity to lead somewhere meaningful.

Geography, History & Culture

Understanding the present begins with knowing the world that shaped it. Through geography, history and cultural exploration, students develop an understanding of how societies have evolved, how civilizations have influenced one another and how people interact with their environments.

From their Acadian and Canadian heritage to the histories and geographies of the wider world, students learn to recognize the connections between people, places and events. They examine how the past informs the present and how geography influences the development of societies.

This broader understanding cultivates historical awareness and the ability to interpret contemporary issues with perspective and discernment.

THE MERIDEL EXPERIENCE

Knowledge is the foundation.
What students decide to do with it is the difference.

Each dimension develops something different. Together, they give students opportunities to understand themselves, connect with others, explore their capabilities and broaden the way they see the world. What students experience throughout their education becomes part of what they carry forward.
